Charene has a wealth of experience in the field of financial regulation and compliance. They started their career in the public sector, working for the Department of Health and Welfare. She then moved to the banking industry, where they held positions at Standard Bank and FNB. She pursued further education in fraud risk management and compliance management, obtaining an M.Phil degree from the University of Pretoria and a Post-graduate Diploma from the University of Johannesburg. Since 2007, Cherene has been working for the regulator, first as a Manager of FAIS Supervision at the FSB, and then as a Manager of Conduct of Business Supervision at the FSCA.
